Fitness blogger Ashlie Molstad is receiving praise for attempting to stop negative body image issues by showing how perspective plays a role in how the human body looks. Molstad, a.k.a. Foodie Girl fitness posted two photos on Facebook illustrating how the same body can look different depending on the angle.
Molstad posted two photos side by side – The first one was her standing up with her arms behind her head. The next photo is of her in the same clothes sitting down.
“Same girl Different angles,” she wrote in the post, “If I’m going to show you the posed, put together, professional sides of me, I’m gonna make damn sure you see the not so flattering sides too.”
Unlike most fitness bloggers Molstad gave her followers a true, and unedited look at her real body! Her goal was to show people to love and accept themselves without adding pressures and impossible/unrealistic expectations.
“Because, contrary to what society has taught us to think, our worth isn’t measured by how many belly rolls we have, or how many dimples on our booty, or how much jiggle hangs out on our arms,” Molstad wrote.
In today’s world of Instagram where you’re bombarded with images of people that appear to have the perfect body; it’s important to understand that most of those images are strategically taken with the perfect lighting and the right angles.
Molstad hopes that her honesty will inspire others to embrace their bodies as well
“This is exactly what young girls need to see,” one user commented. “And even at 25 I needed this reality check.”
Accepting and loving your body may be easier said than done but, we should all remember that we are worthy and beautiful at any size.
“Our bodies aren’t broken,” she wrote. “The message society is trying to tell us (by airbrushing everything, erasing dimples and rolls and fluff) is.”
